Addressing Public Display of Affection at School

Public Display of Affection—or PDA—includes physical contact including, but not limited to, intimate touching, hand holding, fondling, cuddling, and kissing at school or a school-sponsored activity between two students typically in a relationship. This type of behavior, while innocent on some levels, can quickly devolve into a distraction for the students engaging in the practice, as well as other students who witness these public displays of affection. PDA Basics PDA is often considered a public profession of how two people feel about one another. Schools typically see this type of behavior as a distraction and inappropriate for a school setting. Most schools have policies that forbid this type of issue on campus or at school-related functions. Schools typically have a zero-tolerance stance on PDA because they recognize that even innocent displays of affection can turn into something more. Being overly affectionate can be offensive to many people,  though a couple caught up in the moment may not be aware that their actions are offensive. Because of this, schools must educate their students on the issue.  Respect is a critical component  of character-education programs in schools everywhere. Students who regularly engage in acts of PDA are disrespecting their peers by subjecting them to witnessing their affection. This should be brought to the attention of the over-affectionate couple who were probably too caught up in the moment to consider others who were around them. Sample PDA Policy To handle and forbid public displays of affection, schools need first to recognize they have a problem. Unless the school or school district sets specific policies forbidding PDA, they cannot expect students to simply know the practice is forbidden or at least discouraged. Below is a sample policy a school or school district can employ to set a policy on PDAs and prohibit the practice: Public School XX recognizes that genuine feelings of affection may exist between two students. However, students shall refrain from all Public Displays of Affection (PDA) while on campus or while attending and/or participating in a school-related activity.Being overly affectionate at school can be offensive and is generally in poor taste. The expression of feelings toward one another is a personal concern between the two individuals and thus should not be shared with others in the general vicinity. PDA includes any physical contact that may make others in close proximity uncomfortable or serves as a distraction for themselves as well as innocent onlookers. Some specific examples of PDA include but is not limited to: Tips and Hints Of course, the previous example is just that: an example. It may seem overly harsh for some schools or districts. But, setting a clear policy is the only way to minimize or stop public displays of affection. If students dont know the school or districts view on the issue—or even if the school or district has a policy on public displays of affection—they cannot be expected to abide by a nonexistent policy. Turning away from PDAs is not the answer: Setting a clear policy and consequences is the best solution to creating a school atmosphere that is comfortable for all students and teachers.

He organised a hunger strike for better living conditions which he won. While Nelson was imprisoned he was offered freedom if he stopped his violent actions, he was a strong man who believed in his cause, so he refused this offer and continued to fight for equality. Diagnosis of Fatal Attraction Essay - 2194 Words

1. What is the name of the movie you watched? For this assignment, I watched â€Å"Fatal Attraction.† 2. Describe the demographics of the character of â€Å"patient† that you are evaluating. Alex Forrest was the patient in this movie. She is a white female in her 40’s. As the movie begins, Dan and his wife, Beth, go to a company party when he meets Alex Forrest for the first time. A list of the diagnostic criteria for borderline personality disorder and a description for how they are met is following, Alex meets six of the criterion and the DSM-IV-TR requires at least five criterion be present. The Rolling Stone Uva Rape Story - 996 Words

There are several factors to consider when examining the situation of publishing the Rolling Stone UVA rape story. The three theories used to examine more closely the ethical decision the editor had when publishing the story are Kantian perspective, virtue ethics and the Utilitarianism approach, as well as the pros and cons of the situation. Had the story she published been a completely true story it could have shown a light on UVA to perhaps help Jackie and many others that have been victims of sexual assaults and help to prevent future attacks. The way Jackie’s case was handled could have been used to help change the way sex crimes are addressed by the University in the future. In the Procedures For Reports Against Students handbook, it states the procedures for reporting sexual and gender-based harassment, expectations of complainants and respondents, a threat assessment, and how the University of Virginia plans to resolve the issue when the students are victims of sexual assault on campus (Procedures For Reports Against Students). There are also negative aspects that could come from publishing this story before fact checking and interviewing all who were involved; for example, this story shines a negative light on the University of Virginia, current students, faculty, staff and even alumni. My Favorite Childhood Story

Question: Write about the "My Favorite Childhood Story". Answer: One of my best childhood memories while growing up in Thailand are the foods that we enjoyed with friends and family. In Thai culture, food is considered to be very important during social occasions. We enjoyed eating different varieties of fish, exotic rice cakes, noodles, meat, vegetables and fresh fruits. I remember the delicious snacks like spring rolls that we used to buy from the marketplaces. I personally adored pork rice, brown soup, and seaweed snacks. In Thailand, the people treat each other as if they all belong to one family and they actually believe that eating alone attracts bad luck. I used to enjoy lots of fried chicken and rice when invited by my schoolmates to celebrate at their homes and I would always get excited when such opportunities showed up. Thai nationals are very generous and would always share valuable things even with strangers. My childhood experiences taught me the importance of treating everyone equally as one family. We all need to treat others with respect, the same way we would wish to be treated just like Thai people. We also need to reach out and help others in society instead of leading individualistic lives. In Thailand, a person could literally give away his clothing to a stranger who admired it. The Thai people are very compassionate, a quality that everyone needs to emulate. Encouraging and helping other people to live comfortable lives is an important life lesson that we can learn from the Thai culture. References FRIEDMAN, M. (2015). Thailand.
